The Collaborative’s mission is to physically improve deteriorating neighborhoods by creating and preserving affordable rental housing, encouraging community residents to move up the economic ladder, opening economic development opportunities for individuals in these communities, and facilitating community-based services.

At its national convention in Orlando in January, the members of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) elected Robert F. Nielsen, a Collaborative director and multifamily affordable housing developer, to be its Chairman of the Board for 2011. With more than 800 affiliated state and local home builders associations encompassing in excess of 160,000 members across the country, NAHB is the acknowledged "voice of the housing industry," representing the interests of the nation's housing professionals through advocacy, education and research.
